Xinyang Maojian, also known as Yu Mao Feng, is a type of green tea and one of China's top ten famous teas. It is also a renowned specialty of Henan Province. The tea is primarily produced in Xinyang City, including the Shihe District (formerly Xinyang City), Pingqiao District (formerly Xinyang County), and Luoshan County. It was originally created by Han Chinese tea farmers.

In the early years of the Republic of China, the tea produced by five major tea cooperatives in Xinyang's tea-growing regions was of exceptional quality and officially named "Xinyang Maojian."

Xinyang Maojian is known for its slender, round, tightly rolled, and straight appearance, with silvery-white tips. Its bright green color, high and fresh aroma, and crisp, sweet taste make it a standout. With a long history and rich cultural heritage, Xinyang Maojian is often referred to as the "King of Green Tea."

The tea is primarily cultivated in Xinyang's Shihe and Pingqiao Districts and the surrounding Dabie Mountain area. This region boasts distinct seasons, abundant rainfall, a mild climate, and fertile soil—perfect conditions for tea cultivation. The misty mountain areas, in particular, provide an ideal environment for producing high-quality Xinyang Maojian.

Actual colors of the tea may vary somewhat from pictured. Purchase the smallest amount to try before purchasing larger amounts.

Effects and functions of drinking green tea

1. Assist in anti-oxidation and anti-aging
Green tea is rich in powerful antioxidants such as tea polyphenols (especially catechins), which can effectively remove free radicals in the body and reduce oxidative damage to cells, thereby slowing down the aging process. Drinking green tea regularly can help maintain healthy skin and delay signs of aging.

2. Assist in improving immunity
Green tea contains vitamin C, catechins and flavonoids, which have the effect of enhancing immune function. It can help fight viral and bacterial infections, especially during flu season or when immunity is low.

3. Assist in promoting metabolism and weight loss
The caffeine and catechins in green tea can increase metabolism, increase the rate of fat decomposition, and help the body consume calories more efficiently. In addition, green tea is believed to inhibit the absorption of fat, so it is popular in assisting weight loss.

4. Assist in improving cardiovascular health
Green tea helps lower "bad" cholesterol (LDL) levels and increase "good" cholesterol (HDL) levels, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. Tea polyphenols also have anti-inflammatory and protective effects on the lining of blood vessels, which can improve blood circulation.

5. Helps protect brain health
Studies have shown that caffeine and L-theanine in green tea can improve brain functions such as attention, memory and learning ability. Long-term consumption of green tea may also reduce the risk of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.

6. Helps regulate blood sugar
Green tea has the effect of lowering blood sugar levels after meals, which is particularly beneficial for the prevention and management of diabetes. It can improve insulin sensitivity and help regulate blood sugar levels.

7. Helps with antibacterial and oral health
The catechins in green tea have antibacterial and antiviral effects, which can help reduce bacteria in the mouth, prevent tooth decay and bad breath. In addition, it can reduce the formation rate of dental plaque and promote gum health.

8. Helps improve digestion and relieve greasiness
The tannic acid in green tea helps promote digestion, especially after eating greasy food, which can help relieve the burden on the stomach. It also has a certain antibacterial effect and can prevent gastrointestinal infections.

9. Help relieve stress and refresh your mind
L-theanine in green tea has a relaxing effect on nerves, which can relieve stress while keeping you awake and focused. Compared to the high caffeine in coffee, green tea can bring a milder and longer-lasting refreshing effect.

Important Note:
While tea offers numerous health benefits, it should not replace medications for treating diseases. It is also important to consume it in moderation, as drinking too much strong tea can cause side effects like insomnia or gastrointestinal discomfort. Pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and individuals with insomnia should consult a doctor and drink the tea cautiously based on their specific conditions.

One of my favorite green teas alongside Lu Shan Yun Wu. The aroma and taste of this tea send me to a sunny mountain top solitude with a cool breeze through a pine forest in my mind’s eye. Sweet lively umami with a gentle snap and thick body. Downy white hairs fill and twinkle in the cup. A tea to end all wars.

Incredibly high quality tea. Unfortunately it was not my favorite flavour profile. Definitely a 5 star for other people!

Super delicious; first taste always elicits a "Wow, this is good." Sweet, nutty, lovely tea. Easy to brew; no bitterness. I ordered a large amount after my first sample.
