Gong Mei is a type of white tea from China, traditionally produced in regions like Fuding, Zhenghe, and Jianyang in Fujian Province. The name "Gong Mei" comes from the word "Gong," meaning the tea was once a tribute to the imperial court, and "Mei," referring to the soft, fuzzy white hairs on the tea buds. Gong Mei is considered a mid-grade white tea with a unique production process and characteristics.

The leaves of Gong Mei tea are relatively robust in appearance, with a certain level of maturity in the buds and leaves. The buds are covered with a layer of white fuzz, and the leaves have a slightly greenish hue. Compared to Bai Hao Yin Zhen (Silver Needle) and Bai Mu Dan (White Peony), Gong Mei has a more rustic look. Gong Mei is typically harvested in the spring with a more relaxed standard, usually picking one bud with two or three leaves. Because the picking criteria are not as strict as for Silver Needle, the resulting leaves are fuller and more substantial.

Actual colors of the tea may vary somewhat from pictured. Purchase the smallest amount to try before purchasing larger amounts.

Effects and functions of drinking white tea

1. Assist in anti-oxidation
White tea is rich in tea polyphenols, especially epicatechin (EGCG) and catechins, which have powerful antioxidant effects and can help remove free radicals in the body, slow down the aging process, and protect cells from oxidative damage.

2. Assist in enhancing immunity
White tea is rich in amino acids, vitamin C and minerals, which can enhance the body's immunity, help improve resistance and prevent the occurrence of diseases.

3. Assist in improving cardiovascular health
Studies have shown that white tea has a certain effect of lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, which helps improve cardiovascular health. Long-term drinking of white tea helps reduce the risk of arteriosclerosis and thrombosis, thereby reducing the incidence of heart disease.

4. Assist in promoting digestion
White tea helps improve gastrointestinal function and promotes digestion and absorption of food. It has a certain antibacterial effect and can relieve gastrointestinal discomfort and indigestion.

5. Assist in reducing fat and losing weight
The tea polyphenols in white tea can help break down fat and promote fat metabolism, so it has a certain fat-reducing effect, which helps control weight and prevent obesity.

6. Assist in protecting the liver
The various natural substances contained in white tea have the effect of resisting liver damage, which can help reduce the burden on the liver, protect liver cells, and promote liver health.

7. Assist in improving skin health
The antioxidants in white tea can promote skin repair, reduce ultraviolet damage to the skin, help maintain skin elasticity and luster, and delay aging.

8. Assist in promoting blood sugar balance
Some studies have shown that white tea helps regulate blood sugar levels, enhances insulin sensitivity, and has a certain effect on the prevention and auxiliary treatment of diabetes.

9. Assist in relieving stress and relaxing the mood
The fragrance and mild taste of white tea can help relieve daily stress, soothe the nervous system, relax the body and mind, and help improve sleep quality.

10. Assist in protecting oral health
The natural ingredients in white tea have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects, which can reduce the growth of bacteria in the mouth and prevent oral problems such as tooth decay and periodontal disease.

Important Note:
While tea offers numerous health benefits, it should not replace medications for treating diseases. It is also important to consume it in moderation, as drinking too much strong tea can cause side effects like insomnia or gastrointestinal discomfort. Pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and individuals with insomnia should consult a doctor and drink the tea cautiously based on their specific conditions.

I like this one. Has some sweet and syrupy notes I think. It's worth letting it sit for a few weeks when you get it I found the flavors developed a bit more after the first few times I had it. Its kind of a creamy, fruity, caramel flavor/smells

Such an incredible huigan (sweet aftertaste) with strong flavors of berry/plum. I’ve never experienced anything quite like this before while drinking any kind of tea. The compression is just right and the leaves are very very resilient to brewing. It’s really hard to mess this one up, so it’s probably a good tea for folks who aren’t too practiced at gong fu brewing (though it is so forgiving, you might not get any better at gong fu style brewing by drinking it!). My only gripe would be that there’s a lot of twig material in it, which suggests some more indiscriminate/automated picking methods. I get the feeling that you are paying more for the age of the tea than the initial care in the harvesting process. Regardless, time has done a good job on this one, and I might end up buying another few cakes…

Easily one of the best and most beautiful white teas that I've ever had. It's both powerful and delicate. I could go on and on about it. But I say just try it. There's something so therapeutic and enchanting about Gong Mei teas... And this one is really something special. I'm fortunate to have had the experience.

I had about 9 infusions of this tea at 90 degrees starting at 10 seconds + 5 per infusion. The first two infusions tasted like a normal gong mei. Then the third infusion hit me like a freight train. Raisins, plums, just incredible date flavors of fruitiness. Once the leaves open up in this tea it is just absolutely incredible. The after taste is soft and easy in the mouth like white teas usually are. The fruity taste on the 3rd infusion eventually mellow out as the infusions go on. I will definitely be buying a cake or two of this.
