Fuding "Bai Mu Dan" or "White Peony" White Tea from Fujian

Bai Mu Dan, a type of white tea, is one of the six major tea categories in China. It is primarily produced in the Nanping City area of Fujian Province, including the counties of Zhenghe, Songxi, Jianyang, and the city of Fuding. Bai Mu Dan is considered a historic famous tea of Fujian Province.

The tea gets its name, "Bai Mu Dan" (meaning "White Peony"), due to its distinctive appearance—green leaves with silver-white tea buds that resemble a blooming flower. When brewed, the leaves gently cradle the buds, resembling a budding flower. The variety was first created in Shui Ji Town, Jianyang District, and its history dates back to before 1922. After 1922, Zhenghe County began producing Bai Mu Dan, gradually becoming the primary production area. As a result, Bai Mu Dan from Zhenghe became highly popular among people in Hong Kong and Macau and was regarded as a premium gift. 

Due to the mixed tea tree varieties and the fact that its production is influenced by weather, location, and available tools, the production of high-quality Bai Mu Dan has been limited. Since the 1980s, the annual output of premium Bai Mu Dan has been around 20 tons, and it has primarily been exported through foreign trade.
