A little expensive but worth that price |

I am mainly a hei cha drinker, and the note of sweetness, not too much, in this delightful tea is probably why I like it as an alternate to my mainstay. Some taste chocolate here but I would say closer to carob -- there's an astringency that's less present in the Imperial grade, but that's not a mark against it. The medium-thick density makes it a great morning tea that's closer to coffee than many black teas. Absolutely worth a try! |

I purchased this for my birthday and I'm not disappointed, but I don't think I'll get any more. It's blessed with a honeyed scent, warm and earthy; a lovely honey taste, soft, but surprisingly thin, watery; and a small astringency, like a film over the entire tongue. This is a tea for tasting with a sip, less so for drinking. Maltiness and a hint of chocolate develop as the tea cools, as does the astringency, resting on the front half of the tongue. I tried it because it was "competition grade," whatever that means, Jin Jun Mei tea. I think maybe it's supposed to be tasted Gong Fu style rather than drunk in large mugs with breakfast, as I prefer. Its taste is very good, but it's too thin to satisfy my desire for a full-bodied, robust mouthfeel. |

Suede gold strings in the packet; smells like chocolate. Felt excited and giddy with the smell but worried at the same time because teas that smell absolutely amazing don’t always translate in the taste. Quick rinse, wet leaf still smelled like dark cacao but with a bit of cherry and if you really focus, there’s a flower saying hello from a distance. I drank the rinse because it’s a Jin jun mei. Dumping it feels like I’m throwing coins on the ground. Wowza. Thick texture from only the rinse! I’m going to say thick and fruity chocolate, chocolate, chocolate in every infusion. What a wonderful tea. Such a comforting and familiar experience; I felt like a child indulging in sweets because it was my birthday. I pushed this to the very end and ended up with sweet water. Will tighten the belt for the next few weeks, I’m going to buy a kilo of this because my fiancé and I just love it so much. We don’t care or mind for luxury but this definitely worth a splurge! Hopefully, it’s still around. |
