My impression from the first sip of this tea is that it tastes a lot like light qing xin oolongs. Fragrant aftertaste gives away that it's not. Perhaps that is why people who don't like green teas find this one good.

Vegetal green tea with a sweetness that last through multiple brews. Great flavor and aroma combinations. Taste depends strongly on brewing temperature.

When I heated up my gaiwan and added the dry leafs this morning I almost regretted my choice of tea. It smells exactly potent. Almost like a Japanese green, something I try to avoid on an empty stomach. Never the less, I continued. After all the leafs were in the gaiwan. Than the first cup. And it was surprisingly soft. Notes: - nose: umami, grass, some distant stone fruit. - taste: light grass, hay, melonish, distant orange flower - after taste: extremely fresh and menthol. Would I recommend this tea? I don't know. I wouldn't immediately go out and buy the tea by the kilo. Nevertheless it is a very nice tea and I'm pretty sure I'll Pick up a couple of grammes every year next to the greens I always get. So definitely get this tea but try a sample before you get the full amount.

I bought this Gua Pian along with the Premium Longjing from this year, so I'm using that as my point of reference. I brewed this tea both gong fu style in a gaiwan and grandpa-style in a mug, and I can say that this is not quite fit for grandpa-style. It has the capacity to get quite bitter. The Gua Pian was certainly a lot more vegetal than the Longjing, and even slightly fishy (but not grassy) — think spinach. There was a mild sweetness present throughout, and the spinach-y taste died down after a couple of infusions, giving way to some more fresh, spring tastes. Overall, this Gua Pian is quite pleasant. It's certainly not for everyone — the strong vegetal-going-fishy taste can be quite off-putting. But for those who enjoy this (or at least get past it), this tea is a delectable, rather strong green tea.

Light spinach with a nice round light bitter finish. I thought it was like a underwhelming sencha at first but the mouthfeel along with lighter bitterness and flavor balance nicely after getting used to more Chinese green teas.
