Oh my, this is definitely a smoky black tea. Just by opening the packet, scooping the short broken leaves into a cup, you can definitely smell it. With a higher temperature, the heady aroma and taste is all smoke and woodsy tar. Almost like a good whiff of cigarette. But finishes not quite sharp, and mellows out. Subsequent steeps in lower temperatures produced more malty tones and even a very slight hint of sweetness and chocolate. That was interesting.
