This Bai Mu Dan is enjoyable, but nothing special, you can probably find better ones at this price point. The most memorable aspect of it is probably its fragrance. It is floral and grassy as one would expect, but it is interesting. I could smell some rapeseed and green apple ice cream among other less prevalent aromas and a generic meadow-like feeling. The taste is somewhat metallic (brass?), savoury (grass and vegetables like pattypan squash) and has a medicinal/herbal notes too. It also has a tart finish that evolves into a biting and sweet aftertaste with a pear flavour. Mouthfeel is very smooth and delicate with a watery texture and a medium to full body. |

I'm a relative newcomer to White teas and have loved my initial experiences thus far. I want to give this 9/10, but 4.5 is not possible and factoring in that my favorites are considerably more expensive, then I feel the up-boost to 5 star is justified. On to the tea, which I am enjoying it as I type. When I first inhaled the aroma, I wasn't sure what to think. Some teas wow right from the unsealing. This tea smelled a bit like old bread dough to me at first - not bad, just not stimulating. I was pleasantly surprised by the vivid and immediate transformation in aroma as soon as the hot water hit the leaves. A vibrant zing of fresh lept from my Gaiwan and filled my nose and remained for the tasting. Soft, full and long lasting, in 3 words. There is a deceptive aromatic sensation left swirling in my nose, palate and in the air as I pause between sips: the character from the initial aroma - a little of that bread dough scent, now carried by a lively zip with a finishing sweetness which lingers long. I would buy again. |
